Friday’s Ride

This is a shorter than normal write up of the weekend as I was ill and didn’t really take part in a lot of the activities. Additionally I am writing this section of the website a year after the event and my brain, which was a tad “soggy” at the time anyway, has forgotten a lot of what went on!
The White Hart hotel was very nice and gave us their annexe across the road from the main pub where we had all the rooms and wouldn’t disturb the rest of the patrons.
There was a road ride on Friday afternoon, but I have no idea where they went or if anything significant happened!
Dinner the White Hart was nice (I think!).

Saturday’s Ride

Saturday’s ride was almost all on road, the group did split up (MTB’s and Roadies) after 5-6km. The MTB gang doing an off road route near Castle Drogo before heading south and to meet up with everyone at The Ring of Bells in North Bovey. After a bite and a pint the MTB crowd, minus me as I really wasn’t up to doing much more, headed off and did some riding somewhere which involved some dodgy river crossings, large sticks in wheels and Paul losing his (expensive) sunglasses in a river. I also have no idea where the roadies went, although they further sub-divided into two groups. So ends my knowledge of Saturday’s rides!

Saturday Night

Saturday evening we went to a The Union Inn for dinner which was ok (I think!) and they put us in a large barn like room out back so we couldn’t offend any of the locals. There was the usual banter and presentations.
Golden Helmet went to Gary for something he did on the Sutton Benger ride in 2016 (!), that’s the last time I try help out Ian!
The Golden Pedal went to Pete for his off the shelf (at the Tourist Office) cycling maps.
Gordon’s Goblet went to Terri, but I cannot remember why.
A new award for “walkers”, the Black High Heeled Shoe, went to Brian, but again I cannot remember why.
There were some fun and games back at the annexe, but as I had gone rest my aching head you will have to make do with the looking at the photos and making of them what you will.

Sunday’s walk at Haytor Rocks

Sunday morning we drove in a very long convoy out on to Dartmoor to do a walk to Haytor Rocks. After getting nearly lost a few times we did eventually find and climb the rocks where we got some very nice photos before heading back to Dorset.
